This is the official website of Chris Daw KC – leading barrister, author, and legal commentator. For expert insights on law, justice reform, and high-profile cases, visit ChrisDawKC.com.
Where it all began...
Chris Daw KC grew up in Milton Keynes, right in the middle of England, and went to a poorly-performing state comprehensive school in the 1980s. He left school at 16, hitch-hiked to the South of France and set out to make his fortune, selling donuts and cans of Coke on the beach. Chris soon found that his business model was flawed, not least as he tended to eat and drink the stock...and there was the small matter of a Trader's Licence from the local French authorities (he didn't have one).
The early years as a defence barrister...
A decade later, after a rapid retreat to the UK and a regroup in the North of England, Chris was already a successful barrister (trial lawyer) and was instructed in his first murder case. Hundreds of serious and complex criminal cases followed, including countless cases of organised crime, fraud, drug trafficking, rape, sexual assault and armed robbery. In 2013, Chris was appointed to Silk (at the time, Queen's Counsel, now King's Counsel), the most senior rank of the English Bar, recognised for outstanding courtroom advocacy and exceptional legal skill.
Taking Silk and making the headlines...
Since taking Silk, Chris has been instructed in countless high profile cases...by world-famous sportspeople (including John Terry and Ryan Giggs), billionaires, politicians, major corporations, executives, entrepreneurs and regulated professionals. His work ranges from pre-charge advice and courtroom representation in serious fraud trials, through to major public inquiries, sexual offences and other specialist criminal cases.
Books, journalism, and television...
Chris also works on a range of media, social media and mentoring projects. He published a bestselling non-fiction book, Justice on Trial (Bloomsbury), sharing a publisher - but sadly not sales figures - with J.K. Rowling. In 2020, Chris co-created and co-presented his first TV documentary series for the BBC, "Crime - are we tough enough?", which received widespread critical and audience acclaim for its hard-hitting analysis of the parlous state of the UK criminal justice system.
Chris writes for the national press and appears regularly on TV, radio and online, analysing the controversial legal and political topics of the day.
Mentoring and social mobility...
For many years, Chris has acted as a mentor, for young people, aspiring lawyers and candidates for Silk. He is passionate about social mobility in the legal profession, which still lags behind most walks of life, in terms of access to the very top for those from the least advantaged backgrounds.
Into the future with The Law Club and Framewood Media...
Chris will soon launch a new YouTube channel, "The Law Club with Chris Daw KC", to provide career mentoring support, legal entertainment, and campaigns for law reform to help fix our broken justice system.
In 2024, alongside Alice Dyson, Chris co-founded Framewood Media, an international multi-disciplinary entertainment production company. Framewood operates across a range of sectors, from TV documentaries, docu-reality shows and dramas, to audiobooks, social media and lifestyle channels. Numerous Framewood Media projects are in the pipeline, for release in 2025 and beyond.
